Adjunct Faculty Member

Curriculum Development / Visual Training / Communication Training / Software Training

Together with the first year teaching cohort in the IIT College of Architecture, Lauren developed course curricula and training material for two classes, Design Communication 1 & 2. These core classes explore a wide range of approaches to drawing and introduce tools and methodologies that are part of an architect's essential skill set. The courses prompt engagement with the materiality and substance of drawings as physical artifacts of thinking processes. Through the hybridization of analog and digital techniques, students are led through additive and iterative exercises that parallel the trajectory of their studio work and supplement techniques to elevate and best communicate their designs. Group discussions and critiques encourage a discourse on strategies to effectively communicate, analyze, and develop design.

Teaching Cohort: Jeffrey Wigen, Martin Majkrak, Zahida Kahn, Yohan Kim

Programs Taught: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Rhinoceros, Grasshopper

Visual Training Samples: Pixels
Visual Training / Software Training / Communication Training

An iterative multi-week introduction to the fundamentals of digital imaging by overlaying basic raster operations in Adobe Photoshop with multiple rounds of printing, sketching, scanning, and photographing.

Technical Training Samples: Section Collage
Visual Training / Software Training / Communication Training

Synthesis of raster, vector, and compositional skills that were obtained and refined over the course of the semester. Completed work supplemented the drawing requirements for the students’ final studio projects.
